Canadian Colours Kingston Foundation (CCKF)
Jimmy is the founder and CEO of the CCKF, a local non-profit that runs multiple initiatives, supports various local charities, and donates back to the community.
Diversity Dinner
The Diversity Dinner is Jimmy’s first major initiative he ever started. It is a gathering that embraces the diversity and culture that makes our community such a great place to call home, bringing together the community and various ethno-cultural, social, and religious leaders to share their stories and form new bonds over a warm, fresh meal, live entertainment, and the insightful commentary.
Feed Kingston Remote Food Drive
Jimmy, along with the CCKF youth group, have run 2 Remote Food Drives so far and donated thousands of pounds of food to emergency pantries in Kingston. Feed Kingston is an innovative take on the typical food drive, which asks residents who wish to participate leave their food in marked boxes or bags on their porch or doorstep. Jimmy, the Youth team, and volunteers then collect these donations themselves and donate them on behalf of the community, making not only a convenient way to make a difference, but also allowing those who cannot go out and donate themselves as easily to participate safely.
Community Voices With Jimmy Hassan
For the past few years, Jimmy has produced and hosted a show on YourTV, a local TV station. On this show, he interviews and highlights various figures in Kingston, such as officials, city staff, local experts, and anyone with a new perspective or expertise on various socio-economic and political issues in Kingston. The aim of this show is to educate, share, and call residents to action about the matters that affect them in their day-to-day lives.
Committee Service
Both as an individual and as a member of council, Jimmy has had the opportunity to serve Kingston as a member of several committees in order to more directly help Kingston grow and improve as a city. These committees include the Environment, Infrastructure, and Transportation Policies Committee, which reviews policies across the city and advises the council accordingly, the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Advisory Committee, which provides guidance to the city and council about reducing barriers and fostering an inclusive environment for Kingston’s diverse and culturally rich population, the nominations committee, who advises on the appointment of members to committees and external boards and commissions, and the awards committees, which select Civic Awards recipients.
Police Services Board
Jimmy was appointed to the Kingston Police Service Board in 2021, serving since even before becoming a city councillor. As a member, Jimmy helps to maintain the Kingston Police’s service, holding them accountable, helping to employ members of police service, appointing and monitoring Chief of Police and Deputy Chief, and other tasks done as a non-partisan party on behalf of the Kingston Community.
Princess of Wales’ Own Regiment (PWOR) Senator & Veteran Support
Jimmy has been a part of the Kingston PWOR Senate since 2024, playing a role in an advisory board for the Regiment’s non-operational matters. Having always wanted to serve his country, but being unable to for personal reasons, Jimmy has been dedicated to being present and active in supporting Canadian veterans and troops not just through the PWOR senate but through any act of support and presence for honor ceremonies that he can. Jimmy is also a member of the committee for the Military Communications and Electronics Museum in Kingston.
Community Participation
Jimmy, as a self-made, grass roots person, prides himself on being present, someone you can see participating in events, and has made it a priority to attend such local events, charities and support business openings when he can. Not only is it good to show his support, he finds it a perfect opportunity for outreach, to interact with the community and its residents and discuss matters that need addressing. You can find him all over Kingston and sometimes even representing our beautiful city across the country, proud to be a Kingstonian and proud to be a member of this community.
Philanthropy
When there are people in need, Jimmy has always given to those in need. Aside from his various initiatives already mentioned, he also runs and participates in all sorts of charity campaigns. He runs the annual CCKF Blanket Drive to provide warm blankets to those who are unhoused during the harsh winter cold, has been a long time donor to the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation, donated to the YMCA of Kingston, and this year will be donating to BGC South East through the proceeds of the Diversity Dinner 2026.
Community Sponsor and Supporter
Jimmy has always believed in giving back to the community that has given him the life he dreamed of having. He has personally sponsored and supported many local events, groups, and causes himself or through his business. Just a few examples include a support lunch for the LCVI Special Olympics team and their teachers for competing in the Youth Invitational Games, donating pizza for the participants and volunteers of the Gutsy Walk for multiple years, sponsored the Risk Takers 613 group in a campaign to support the unhoused, given appreciation and support lunches to local teachers, city workers, and service works on many occasions, among other such actions of support.
Project Red Rose
On Valentine’s Day, Jimmy doesn’t want anyone to be left out of the celebration of love and compassion. Every year he sponsors and helps to prepare a meal for the vulnerable in Kingston, as a way to share a bit of compassion to those who need it.
Santa Slices
Every winter Jimmy, through his Pizza Pizza franchise, makes and delivers thousands of slices to various local non-profits to feed to those in need for the holiday season. In 2025, Jimmy personally donated 1,500 slices but, through community support, the project was able to donate more than 6,000 extra slices for a total of 7,000 slices across Kingston.
